The blind musician Henco de Berg was born in 1967 in the Frisian town of Drachten (the Netherlands). He studied organ and piano with Ernest Gervais, the blind organist of the R.C. St Agathakerk at Lisse and with Arie Keijzer and Maurice Pirenne at the Rotterdam conservatory, where he took his performing and teaching diplomas and qualified in improvisation. De Berg attended two series of masterclasses in improvisation for organ and piano, directed by Loïc Mallié, at the International Summer Academy in Haarlem. Henco de Berg studied music theory with Henk de Croon at the Fontys Conservatory in Tilburg; he passed summa cum laude for the main subject of practical harmony at the piano. He taught organ and improvisation at the same institute and was a piano examiner there from 2002-2017. De Berg is an active recitalist in the Netherlands and abroad.
